Italian school of the 17th century, Madonna with Child

30000

Product Code : 0845
Great Italian painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a splendid Madonna with child attributable to Cristoforo Roncalli known as Pomarancio (1553-1626), lacking authenticity. He shares the nickname with his teacher Niccolò Circignani, also linked to Pomarance, but active a few decades earlier. He will train in Florence and will work mainly between Tuscany and Lazio, particularly in Rome. With his clean and imposing style he will find a compromise between Tuscan mannerism and Caravaggio naturalism. Artwork with brilliant colors and notable pictorial quality, in particular in the creation of the drapery of the Madonna's dress and in the complexion of the baby Jesus. Loosely lying on his mother's lap, he indicates the sacred scriptures while she, holding a hand to her head, seems to foresee the fate that awaits his son. Spectacular 20th century frame in carved, gilded and painted wood in Tuscan style, of great decoration and impact, with some signs of aging. Painting that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and recovery of color in some small spots. Overall in excellent state of conservation. Sight size H 113.5 x W 90 cm.
